A postal ID for cashless transactions?
Postmaster General Luis Carlos shared on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, that the new postal ID has an update, especially now that the Philippine Postal Corp. (PHLPost) is celebrating its 257th anniversary.
The new ID can now be used for address verification and even for cashless transactions! “A lot of foundational IDs don’t have that function… So, alam natin yung tao, alam din yung address,” shared Carlos during the launching.
In addition to the update, the Postal ID can also be used in other different countries as part of the Universal Postal Union policy where 192 states are members. It is also expected that the same ID will soon be used for claiming discounts and vouchers from future partnerships with shops and companies; making it an identification card with a similar power as a Senior Citizen ID and store membership IDs. “It’s not just an ID, it can be somewhat like GCash, where it can be used for cashless transactions. For convenience, in the future,” shared PHLPost Chair Chair Stephen Cruz.
