The Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) will have a revamp on their operations as there will be a takeover of roles!

The San Miguel Corporation (SMC) will be taking over operations of NAIA starting September 14, 2024 through its consortium, New NAIA Infrastructure Corp. (NNIC). It is expected that there will be major reorganization of the NAIA’s terminals.

  • TERMINAL 1 : exclusively cater to Philippine Airlines (PAL) for international flights
  • TERMINAL 2 : will serve domestic flights for PAL & Cebu Pacific
  • TERMINAL 3:  will accommodate foreign airlines and international flights from Cebu Pac & AirAsia
  • TERMINAL 4: will be for AirAsia domestic flights.

NNIC General Manager Angelito Alvarez emphasized that the terminal reassignments will be phased in over three years to minimize disruptions.

“It will be a gradual process. That’s the best that we can do at this point in time,” he said, “NNIC will not disrupt current operations and will be business as usual.”

Overall, SMC’s takeover and the planned upgrades are set to significantly enhance NAIA’s capacity, aiming to raise annual passenger traffic from 35 million to 62 million over the next four to five years.

However, passengers should expect some initial confusion as the terminal reassignments roll out. This gradual change may lead to temporary disruptions in terminal navigation, so traveling Sugboanons, you might need a bit of patience and flexibility during this transition period.
