Alcoholic beverages in public places will be banned during the Grand Parade and Grand Ritual Showdown on January 21, 2024.
According to Mayor Michael Rama, the liquor ban will take effect for the whole day on January 21 but will only be observed along the route of the Grand Parade, which is at the South Road Properties (SRP).
The liquor ban is to make sure that there will be no public commotion or chaos during the parade due to the influence of alcohol.
“Now, those who will carelessly drink publicly and you will cause commotion, you will be accountable. So you have to be responsible,” said Rama.
However, even though Rama verbally announced the liquor ban, Councilor Phillip Zafra of the Committee on Peace and Order said that they would still require an executive order to be written. To properly enforce the ban, permits issued for liquor dispensing should be reassessed.
