News about Zayn Malik’s failed attempt in using a dating app became a global phenomenon, especially since there are tons of women worldwide who would definitely date Zayn! But, according to him in an interview with Nylon, he constantly gets accused of catfishing whenever he joins a dating app, “Everyone accused me of catfishing. They’re like, ‘What are you using Zayn Malik’s pictures for?’”
Aside from Zayn, there are still many other celebrities who had tried and failed in the area of new tech dating, and here are some of them:
Ivana Alawi
Actress and influencer, Ivana Alawi, shared on one of her vlog interviews that she has used a dating app before, “Broken ako noon. Gusto ko ng ka-chat. Pero hindi ako nakipagkita. Chat chat lang. Pero matagal ko nang dinelete.” [Translation: “I was heartbroken at that time. I wanted someone to chat with, but I didn’t push through to meet up with anyone in person; just chatting. However, I already deleted the app a long time ago.”]
Zac Efron
Being a Disney channel heartthrob and versatile actor is not a guarantee to land a date from an app. Zac shared to Vogue that he never received a swipe right when he joined Tinder, “Amazingly, when I signed up for Tinder, nobody swiped me! They thought it was fake…that never happened.”
Roxanne Barcelo
During her interview with PEP.PH, Roxanne admitted that she felt her singleness dragging along so she decided to try two dating apps, “I appreciate this moment kasi may Bumble, may Tinder. There are so many apps where hindi na tayo kailangan tumambay sa mga kung saan-saang kanto para makatagpo ng love. Or hindi na kailangang magsimbang-gabi tayo every night, di ba? Aminin mo yun, girl!” [Translation: “I appreciate this moment because we have Bumble and Tinder already. There are so many apps where we don’t have to go somewhere or be out there physically just to find love. Or we no longer have to attend the simbang gabi every night, right? Admit it girl!”
Olivia Rodrigo
Known for her hit songs “Driver’s License,” “Deja Vu,” and “Traitor,” Olivia Rodrigo also tried using a dating app. But, unlike Zayn and Zac, she used an exclusive, celebrity-only app known as Raya. Still, according to Olivia during a GQ interview, “I had Raya for a second, and it was so vomit. Like, I could not.”
Katy Perry
The “Fireworks” and “Dark Horse” singer admitted to Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club that she got into Tinder after her hiatus with John Mayer, “I’m really deep on Tinder so I don’t have a whole lot of time.” Since that’s a long time ago, it begs the question if Katy is still on the app or not; we’ll never know for sure til you see her profile on it.
Sam Smith
Banned from not one, but two dating apps? Well, that’s on Sam Smith for not going through the complete verification process of both Tinder and Hinge. Sam Smith disclosed the hilarious story during an interview with ET Canada, “I never used Grindr. I did Tinder once, I think I got chucked off of Tinder. I got chucked off of Hinge because they thought that I wasn’t me. Well, I didn’t verify my profile, so I should have done that.”
Camila Cabello
Havana oh na na as Camila signed in and then uninstalled Tinder within just 24 hours! The singer-songwriter admitted during her interview at The Drew Barrymore Show, “I was on a dating app for like 24 hours, then I left. The first guy that DMed me was, like, an aspiring singer-songwriter from Nashville. I was just like, ‘I feel weird because somebody could be using me.’ Does that make sense?”
