Imagine sitting down for a fancy 3-course dinner, only to realize you can’t see your food, your table, or even the person sitting beside you.
Yep. We tried it.
At Dusit Thani Mactan Cebu, there’s a dining experience where the lights go completely out and your eyes basically become useless.

Welcome to DID – Dine in the Dark, the Philippines’ first Dine in the Dark experience and it’s actually here in Cebu.
And before you ask: yes, it is COMPLETELY dark.

No Phones. No Cameras. No Peeking.
The first thing you need to know about DID is that you’re not walking into a dimly lit restaurant with some moody candles.
You literally can’t see anything.
Phones, cameras, and personal belongings are stored in lockers before entering the dining area. No sneaky photos. No checking your phone. No trying to illuminate your plate.

To be honest, that’s what makes it exciting.
For once, you’re not thinking about taking the perfect food photo before eating.
You just… eat.

So What Do You Actually Do in the Dark?
Without your eyesight, your other senses suddenly become the main characters.
You start paying attention to things you normally wouldn’t notice: the smell of the food, the texture, the sounds around you, and of course, the taste.

And then comes the fun part:
Trying to figure out what you’re actually eating.
You can smell it.
You can taste it.
You can feel the texture.

But your brain is still going:
“WAIT… WHAT IS THIS?” 😂
It turns an ordinary dinner into a little guessing game.

And Here’s the Part We Loved Most
We were guided throughout the entire experience by visually impaired Guides, who also served our 3-course dinner.
They made sure we were comfortable, safe, and entertained throughout the evening.
What made it even more interesting was getting to talk to them and ask questions about how they navigate and work in complete darkness.

At some point, you realize that while you’re struggling to figure out where your fork is, they’re confidently moving around and taking care of everyone.
It definitely gives you a different perspective.

We Can’t Show You What Happened Inside
And that’s probably the funniest part about making content about Dine in the Dark.
We have no footage of the actual dinner.
Because you’re not allowed to bring your phone or camera inside.

So instead of showing you the food, we’re showing you the part we can show:
The anticipation.
The Guides.

And most importantly…
Our reactions after dinner.
Because let’s just say there were A LOT of guesses, surprises, and moments of:
“No way! THAT’S what it was?!”

What’s Included?
DID includes a welcome drink, amuse bouche, and a 3-course set menu, along with guidance and assistance from the visually impaired Guides.
The experience costs ₱3,500 per person and runs from 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM.
Seating is limited to 38 guests, so reservations are recommended.

Would You Try It?
Dine in the Dark isn’t really about having a meal without lights.
It’s about taking away something you normally take for granted and seeing how differently you experience food when sight is no longer part of the equation.

And honestly, that’s what makes it memorable.
You can’t take a photo of your food.
You can’t look at your partner while you’re eating.

You can’t even peek at what’s on your plate.
You just have to trust your senses.
So, Cebu…
Would you dare to have dinner without seeing what you’re eating? 👀
