Dao Falls is one of the island’s tallest and most striking waterfalls. Also known as Dau Falls, it drops from an approximately 120-meter limestone cliff into a deep turquoise pool surrounded by towering canyon walls. What makes this destination different is not just the waterfall itself, but the entire experience, from crossing a bamboo bridge and walking through a lush forest to wading through clear streams before reaching the falls. If you’re planning a South Cebu adventure, read on for everything you need to know before visiting Dao Falls.

What Makes Dao Falls Special
Unlike many waterfalls where the main attraction is only a few steps from the entrance, Dao Falls rewards visitors with a scenic journey. The trail passes through thick greenery, small streams, and narrow rock canyons shaped by flowing water over thousands of years. The bright blue water, dramatic limestone formations, and peaceful surroundings create one of the most memorable waterfall experiences in Cebu. Even during the busy travel season, Dao Falls is often less crowded than other popular attractions in South Cebu.
The Trek to the Waterfall
The adventure begins with a downhill walk along concrete steps before reaching the famous bamboo suspension bridge. From there, the trail continues through a forest before entering the canyon where visitors will walk through shallow streams and across slippery limestone rocks. The hike usually takes around 20 to 30 minutes one way and is considered easy to moderate, although proper footwear is highly recommended since several sections become slippery, especially after rain.

Swimming at Dao Falls
After the trek, visitors are welcomed by a massive curtain of water crashing into a clear blue basin. The cool water offers a refreshing break from the tropical heat, while the surrounding cliffs create a peaceful atmosphere for swimming and relaxing. Smaller pools and mini waterfalls can also be found along the canyon, making the entire area worth exploring before heading back.

Best Time to Visit
The best months to visit Dao Falls are from December to May, when the trails are generally drier and easier to hike. During the rainy season, the paths can become slippery, and heavy rainfall may lead to temporary closures for safety reasons. Visiting early in the morning also gives you a better chance of enjoying the falls before more visitors arrive.
