Mandaue Solo Parents To Get P12,000 Annual Aid

Around 1,757 qualified solo parents in Mandaue City will receive P12,000 each in annual financial assistance from the city government. The Mandaue City Government increased the annual assistance from P10,000 to P12,000 to provide additional support to solo parents.

The second tranche of the financial assistance could be released as early as next week, according to the City Social Welfare Services Office (CSWSO).

CSWSO discusses programs

The assistance was among the programs discussed during a meeting between Mayor Thadeo “Jonkie” Ouano and CSWSO officials on Sept. 10. CSWSO Head Dr. Michael Pielago and Federation of Solo Parents Mandaue City Chapter Focal Person Pureza Tabuac attended the meeting.

Senior citizens also receive higher aid

Mandaue City also increased its annual financial assistance for senior citizens. The City Council approved an ordinance raising the assistance to P11,000 in 2026 and P12,000 annually starting 2027. The ordinance also changes the payout schedule from April and December to June and November, allowing beneficiaries to receive the assistance in two tranches.

For 2026, senior citizens will receive the remaining P6,000 of their P11,000 annual assistance in November. The ordinance, however, is still awaiting the mayor’s signature before it takes effect.

Anti-mendicancy program to be reviewed

Meanwhile, city officials are looking into ways to strengthen Mandaue’s anti-mendicancy program amid concerns over the increasing number of people begging or roaming around the city.

Tabuac raised the issue during the meeting, saying people involved in mendicancy continue to return to Mandaue despite existing programs and efforts by the local government. Ouano said he would discuss the matter with the City Council to find ways to improve the implementation of the program.

City services for solo parents

Ouano also recognized the CSWSO’s continuing efforts to provide city government services and make assistance programs more accessible to residents, particularly solo parents.
