Central Visayas Minimum Wage May Set to Rise by ₱42 Starting October 14

Minimum wage workers in Central Visayas will receive higher daily pay starting October 14, following the approval of a new wage order for the region. The increase will cover workers in private establishments across Cebu, Bohol, Negros Oriental and Siquijor. The change comes after months of consultations involving workers, employers, and other stakeholders. Here’s what workers need to know about the new minimum wage rates and when they will take effect.

₱42 Increase Approved

The National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC) has affirmed the new Wage Order issued by the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board VII (RTWPB VII). The order provides a ₱42 increase in the daily minimum wage for covered private-sector workers in Central Visayas. The NWPC unanimously approved the affirmation with five commissioners present, while two commissioners were absent.

New Rate to Reach ₱582

Under the new wage order, the daily minimum wage for workers in Class A areas will increase to ₱582. Workers covered under Class B areas will receive a new daily minimum wage of ₱542. The rates represent a ₱42 increase from the previous minimum wage levels applicable to the respective classifications.

Four Provinces Covered

The new wage order covers the four provinces comprising Central Visayas: Cebu, Bohol, Negros Oriental and Siquijor. The actual rate applicable to a worker will depend on the classification of the area where the establishment is located. Workers and employers can check the final published wage order for the specific coverage and applicable rate.

Tolentino Confirms Approval in Cebu

DOLE Secretary and NWPC Chairperson Francis N. Tolentino confirmed the commission’s action during its deliberation at the Department of Labor and Employment Regional Office VII in Cebu on Sept. 26, 2026. The wage order had been submitted by RTWPB VII to the NWPC for review as required under existing wage-setting guidelines. Following the commission’s affirmation, the regional board will proceed with the publication of the order.

New Rates Expected on October 14

The new minimum wage rates are expected to take effect on Oct. 14, 2026, after the required publication period. Employers covered by the wage order will need to comply with the applicable rates once the order becomes effective. Workers can also refer to the published wage order for details on coverage, exemptions and other provisions.

Consultations Held Across Region 7

The new rates followed the wage determination process conducted by RTWPB VII. The board held consultations and public hearings involving labor groups, employers and other stakeholders across Central Visayas. These discussions formed part of the process used in determining the new regional minimum wage.

What Workers Should Check

Once the wage order takes effect, workers should check whether their daily pay reflects the applicable new minimum wage for their area. Employees should also keep their payslips and employment records for reference. Questions or concerns regarding compliance can be raised with the appropriate DOLE or RTWPB VII office. Employers, meanwhile, should review their payroll systems and ensure that covered employees receive the correct statutory minimum wage.

A Higher Minimum for Region 7

The ₱42 increase will change the daily minimum wage to ₱582 in Class A areas and ₱542 in Class B areas. The new rates will apply once the wage order takes effect following its required publication. For minimum wage workers across Central Visayas, the change will be reflected in their daily pay beginning in October.
