The Rescue Story Behind Talisay City Hall’s Famous Aspins

A few years ago, they wandered the grounds of Talisay City Hall searching for food and shelter like many stray animals do. Today, they have become the faces who greet visitors, brighten workdays, and remind employees of the value of compassion. Their journey from abandoned puppies to cherished companions has transformed several government offices, and their story is one worth discovering in full.

A Home Found Within City Hall

Among the offices that opened their doors to the animals is the Talisay City Tourism Office. Four aspins named Brownie, Whitey, Biggie, and Tiger have become part of the workplace family after being cared for by employees for nearly three years. What started as simple acts of feeding hungry puppies eventually grew into a long-term commitment to their welfare and protection.

Tourism Officer Mikki Aznar shared to Bahay Jeep ni Antet that the dogs were still very young when employees first noticed them roaming outside the City Hall compound. The puppies were thin and struggling to survive on their own. Seeing their condition, staff members began providing food and water until the animals gradually became healthier and more comfortable around people.

More Than Just Office Pets

Over time, the dogs became more than rescued animals. Visitors arriving at the Tourism Office are often welcomed by the friendly aspins, whose presence adds warmth to the workplace. Employees have grown attached to them, describing the dogs as affectionate companions that help ease stress during busy days.

The bond between the staff and the animals developed naturally through daily interaction. What began as concern for stray puppies evolved into a relationship built on trust and care. For many employees, the dogs have become an important part of their office routine.

Rescue Efforts Extend to Cats

The Tourism Office’s compassion did not stop with dogs. About two years ago, employees also began rescuing cats found near the City Hall flagpole. Similar to the dogs, the cats were initially in poor condition and needed attention.

Staff members provided food and basic care while working closely with local animal welfare efforts. Through patience and consistent support, the rescued cats gradually recovered and became healthier. Their story reflects the office’s broader commitment to helping vulnerable animals within the City Hall grounds.

Responsible Care Behind the Scenes

The rescued animals receive more than food and shelter. According to Aznar, all of them have been spayed or neutered with the assistance of Dr. Ma. Christine Hope Dejadena, chief of the Talisay City Veterinarian’s Office. They have also received vaccinations and vitamins to ensure their continued health.

Employees likewise follow measures to maintain cleanliness and safety within the workplace. The animals are brought out of the office in the evening in compliance with policies regarding pets inside government offices. They stay in designated cages at night, while regular cleaning and disinfection are conducted every week.

A Growing Pet-Friendly Culture

The Tourism Office is not the only department caring for rescued animals. A well-known dog named Buddy has found a home at the City Engineering Office, while other rescued dogs are being looked after by the City Agriculture Office. Across different departments, employees have embraced the responsibility of caring for animals that once had nowhere to go.

These efforts reflect a growing culture of animal welfare within Talisay City Hall. Instead of being ignored, rescued animals are being given opportunities to live safer and healthier lives. The initiative has also encouraged employees to become more aware of responsible pet ownership.

A Small Act With a Bigger Impact

For Aznar, the rescue and care of animals within City Hall represent more than an office initiative. They serve as a reminder that kindness can create meaningful change, even through small daily actions. Every rescued dog and cat is proof that compassion can give abandoned animals a second chance.

As Talisay continues promoting a pet-friendly environment, officials hope more people will embrace animal rescue and responsible pet ownership. The story of Brownie, Whitey, Biggie, Tiger, Buddy, and the other rescued animals shows that sometimes, finding a home begins with someone simply choosing to care.
