PUBLIC ADVISORY:

Caubian Island is a PRIVATE property and is NOT open to the public yet. Guests who insist to visit the island without permission are considered trespassers. However, officials are already in talks to open the island very soon or by Q2, 2018.

Caubian Island, located east of Mactan Cebu, is the newest island destination in Cebu. It is composed of two islands: (1) Caubian Gamay where the residents live and (2) Caubian Dako which is knownly called Po where the white beach is found.

There is a 300-hectare marine protected area at the center of the sea which is part from one of the six double barrier reefs in the world. A shark den which is a protected area too. It is a 45-minute to an hour travel time from the mainland Lapu-Lapu City.

IS THERE AN ENTRANCE FEE?

Currently, there are no entrance fees since this is a private island. It is still being discussed by the officials whether or not to require an entrance fee from the visitors.

ARE OVERNIGHT STAYS ALLOWED?

There is a resort in Caubian operated by the Koreans which operates day time only. NO OVERNIGHT STAY. The reason behind this is, the island has mythical stories about the Agtas living there. That is why, no overnight is allowed for the safety of the visitors, even the residences there do not do overnight stays.

FOOD, WATER, ELECTRICITY?

There are seafood but are not sold in the island unless you have a friend living in the island. You can ask them to order it ahead of time. This is because, the seafood are being imported to the mainland every morning. There are also no stores selling any goods in the island.

There is no source of drinking water in the island. People get their water from the neighboring barangay which is part of Bohol. It is recommended to bring your own food before going to the island.

There is also no electricity in the island.

MESSAGE FROM THE RESIDENTS

Our island is somehow we can call our last frontier. It is an island full of beauty. Once called a virgin island. We will take care of it as it is our last treasure. What we would hope for our visitors is to be responsible. Keep it clean and green. Please bring your trashes back to the mainland as we do not have any location to dump our garbage there. We apologize for the misinformation but for sure, we will be working on it and we will blast the information as soon as there is an official statement from the owners of the island and the barangay councils of Caubian island.

MESSAGE FROM SUGBO.PH

SUGBO ADVISORY: After being featured on our Facebook page and our blog (www.sugbo.ph), the Caubian Island became a viral hit and is now known to many Cebuanos. We understand that many would like to witness and experience such beautiful beach, but when the Caubian residents felt the number of guests coming in the past days, it really didn’t do any good to the island.

A few residents of Caubian Island initially allowed us to promote the island and even helped us correct some information. They also insisted to highlight DISCIPLINE among the people who were planning to visit and to be RESPONSIBLE by taking care of the island. But just right after two days, UNFORTUNATELY, there were some guests who left plastics and trashes in the island and were too loud and noisy. This alarmed the Caubian residents and the Sugbo.ph team.

Sugbo.ph is one with the officials of Caubian Island in PROTECTING THE ISLAND. It’s our responsibility to inform the public that this island is a PRIVATE property and is NOT yet open to the public.

No worries, officials of Caubian Island are also considering to take the opportunity on the island’s popularity. But they are taking their time in rehabilitating the island while it’s not yet too late and in coming up with better policies and fair arrangements among its guests or visitors.

Hopefully, everyone can experience the beautiful Caubian Island, one of Cebu’s best and hidden gems, by Summer of 2018.
